While Guatemala aren't about to set the world on fire anytime soon, they do have some good players hanging about on their team, including Marco Pappa of the Chicago Fire. Kevin McCauley of SB Nation's Mexican futbol blog FMF State of Mind has his eye on the winger for the quarterfinal tonight. It's not because there are rumours of Pappa going anywhere just yet, but Kevin thinks that a move to Mexico for the talented player would make some sense:
Marco Pappa One To Watch - FMF State Of Mind
A move for Pappa to FMF makes a whole lot of sense for him and for almost every team in the league, and it’s something that could probably be facilitated with the Chicago Fire.Pappa, despite his immense talents, is on the s--t list of a lot of Fire fans because of his lack of commitment to tracking back on defense. Why a team with lots of good defensive midfield players and almost no creative presence would ask their most creative player to defend is beyond me, but that’s another issue for another day. The point is, Pappa isn’t universally loved in Chicago but is, at the same time, too good for a Fire team that has a very fractured squad, a bad record, and a very weird coaching situation.
It wouldn't be out of the question that rumours start rolling in regarding Pappa if he does well against Mexico today, but he's more likely to be frustrated by a suffocating El Tri defence and overshadowed by the impressive attacking options of team Mexico. He's still a quality player, though, and this could well be his time to shine.
