Phil Neville’s Daughter Stole Her Dad’s Phone And Said Hello

I think we often lose sight while watching and covering soccer that the players we cheer and jeer, curse and praise, are still fellow human beings. Just how much we really need to see about their lives away from the pitch is open to debate but if a player is willing to give us glimpses of their life, I think it’s always worth taking the time to appreciate it.

Twitter has revolutionized how we interact with athletes and while most people are respectful, it can get out of hand. Fortunately, there are plenty of positive moments and messages that remind us that in the end, there are things more important that goals and victories. We got a great example of this last night thanks to Phil Neville’s twitter account.

If nothing else that should at least make you smile and hopefully it makes you appreciate the increased level of access that we have to our favorite athletes. The fact that we can interact with them through social networking has given us a greater insight about who they are and I think, when used properly, makes the entire fan experience even better.

It also should remind us that in the end, it’s just a game. As for Phil Neville and his family, hopefully they enjoy the rest of their trip to Disney World.
