Well that's not England's finest moment. A comedy of errors leads to Switzerland opening the scoring at Wembley Stadium, and as they've been the better side it's not really a surprise. Glen Johnson loses possession in his own third and Frank Lampard is forced to concede a (slightly dubious) free kick. Tranquillo Barnetta stands over the ball, and whips in a far post cross. Rio Ferdinand jumps to clear and completely misses the ball, leaving Joe Hart hopelessly wrong footed - he can do nothing about the ball bouncing in at the post.
England Vs. Switzerland: Flurry Of Goals Sees Switzerland 2-1 Up
1-0 Switzerland was not a state of affairs that would last particularly long. England were rattled, and Scott Parker conceded another foul close to the area and from a tight angle. Barnetta took again, firing towards Hart's near post, and an absolutely awful piece of goalkeeping sees the Manchester City man kick wildly at the ball and totally miss it, allowing the visitors to go 2-0 up.
Seconds later and England had pulled one back, with Frank Lampard converting (just about) from the penalty spot after Jack Wilshere was adjudged to have been fouled by club teammate Johan Djourou. The Chelsea midfielder's spot kick was awful, Diego Benaglio guessing the right way, but somehow the goalkeeper allowed the spot kick to squirm under him. So, it's 2-1 Switzerland very late in the first half. Not exactly the expected score.
