England Vs. Switzerland, Final Score: Disappointing 2-2 Draw At Wembley For England

Well that game certainly could have turned out better for England. Why Fabio Capello refused to play Ashley Young from the beginning is a complete and utter mystery to me - there's absolutely no reason for James Milner or Theo Walcott to have started with Young on the bench. The match began with Switzerland dominating a midfield with both Frank Lampard and Scott Parker off their games, and it came as no shock when the visitors went ahead, a Tranquilo Barnetta free kick coupled with errors from Rio Ferdinand and Joe Hart sending Switzerland into a 1-0 lead, which was quickly doubled thanks to a free kick by Barnetta and errors from Milner and Hart.

Frank Lampard pulled one back from the penalty spot just after the second goal, but England were still looking very much second best as the first half ended, at which point Young came on and immediately changed the game. He scored in the 51st minute after a lovely chest down from fellow substitute Leighton Baines, and he was generally running around and causing havoc all half. England had a number of opportunities to grab the win and three points (mostly spurned by Darren Bent, who was immediately branded a complete failure by England fans) but ultimately the hosts couldn't find that critical third goal.

With Montenegro in action later in the day and expecting a win, England could easily see themselves second in the group by tomorrow. A huge waste for Fabio Capello's side, but full credit to the Swiss for putting up such a strong fight - even if their goals were mostly enabled by England being utter pants for 45 minutes.
