Landon Donovan, Carlos Bocanegra and Jonathan Bornstein are all out for the United States' international friendly against Spain, but that is not all the U.S. will miss today. At least in the starting lineup, the Americans are without Clint Dempsey too. That does not bode well for the U.S., who faced a tall task against the world champions even with their best lineup. Instead, it is clear that big name opponent or not, head coach Bob Bradley is clearly not emphasizing this match and is instead making sure his team is ready to go for the Gold Cup, which begins on Tuesday.
USA Vs. Spain, International Friendly: USMNT Starting Lineup
With Bocanegra out and unable to serve as captain and Donovan, the vice-captain, also out, Tim Howard will wear the armband for the U.S. Among the most interesting things to watch will be the health and quickness of Oguchi Onyewu at the back as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Also worth watching is how Juan Agudelo and Jozy Altidore work together up top because that might be the go-to pairing in the Gold Cup. Tim Ream will also look to make his case for a starting spot in the central defense.
Starting Lineup: Tim Howard; Jonathan Spector, Oguchi Onyewu, Tim Ream, Eric Lichaj; Sacha Kljestan, Maurice Edu, Jermaine Jones, Robbie Rogers; Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo
