With no competitive football on the immediate horizon, Spain have gone with what is essentially a first choice lineup tonight against the United States. Fernando Torres is one notable omission, but after his poor second half of the season at Chelsea, this isn’t terribly shocking. Most would have guessed that Fernando Llorente would be the man who took his place in the lineup, but he has instead been replaced by Alvaro Negredo.

It will be extremely difficult for the United States to both keep the ball and win it back when they lose it, thanks to the men in the middle for Spain. Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso have exceptional positioning and are respectable tacklers, but their real value comes in their skill and intelligence on the ball. Even if the United States plays brilliantly en route to a win, expect them to have much less than half of the possession. Here’s the lineup.
