USA Vs. Spain, 2011 International Friendly: 3-0 Halftime, Santi Cazorla Nets Brace

This is getting to the point where it borders on disappointing and funny. At some point, the United States are going to be getting destroyed so thoroughly that everyone just starts laughing at how absurd the game is. We’re getting dangerously close to that point, as Spain have taken a well deserved 3-0 lead on a terrible United States team headed into halftime, thanks to a Santi Cazorla brace.

Once again, the architect of the scoring chance was David Silva, who has been jaw-droppingly good in the first half. Getting down the left flank again, Silva pulled back a low cross towards the penalty spot. David Villa missed the ball and appeared to be fouled, but it didn’t matter. It fell to Cazorla, who was totally unmarked, and he put the ball into the back of the net.

When the goal was scored, seven United States players were in the penalty area. None of them were in the general vicinity of Cazorla.

Even though it’s just a friendly, Bob Bradley has to be downright furious, and he’ll be making changes at halftime if only to save face and avoid a major morale killer headed into Tuesday’s massive match against Canada.
