The first half of the international friendly between the United States and Spain didn’t leave any questions unanswered about the two formations and the players on the field, so both coaches have opted to make major changes to get a look at more players in the second half. Bob Bradley has used five of his six substitutions, while Vicente Del Bosque has made three changes.
USA Vs. Spain, 2011 International Friendly: Teams Make Eight Total Halftime Subs Between Them
United States Substitutions
Clint Dempsey for Robbie Rogers
Chris Wondolowski for Jozy Altidore
Steve Cherundolo for Maurice Edu
Michael Bradley for Jermaine Jones
Clarence Goodson for Oguchi Onyewu
Most of these substitutions are like for like, with the exception of Cherundolo for Edu. That substitution will move fullback Jonathan Spector into the center of midfield.
Spain substitutions
Fernando Torres for David Villa
Andres Iniesta for Alvaro Negredo
Bruno for Sergio Busquets
These substitutions probably represent a change in formation for Spain, as Iniesta is a playmaking midfielder, coming into the game for a striker.
