Will Positive Test Nix Guillermo Ochoa’s Rumored Move To PSG?

Six players from the Mexican national team have tested positive for a banned substance and while the matter is still being investigated, they have been removed from the team in the middle of the Gold Cup. That is the immediate result of the ban and it keeps the players out of the tournament, while also threatening the team’s chances to win the Gold Cup, but there is also the long-term effect this could have on the players.

One of the players who tested positive is Guillermo Ochoa and there are certainly long-term ramifications for the goalkeeper. He had been rumored to be on the verge of a move to Paris Saint-German, but could this positive test ruin his chances of making the European move? Kevin McCauley from SB Nation's FMF blog FMF State of Mind takes a look at how the positive test could affect Ochoa's move.

There are a couple of schools of thought here. One, they don’t want the negative publicity. It’s quite possible that Ochoa’s positive test for clenbuterol was 100 percent accidental, and that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing within the next couple of months. However, Gregory Coupet has retired and PSG are going to want a new goalkeeper to play through the entirety of their pre-season training camp. They can’t wait until August to bring in a goalkeeper. If they don’t want the negative publicity they would get for signing Ochoa, they’re not going to wait until he’s cleared. They’re just going to sign someone else.

There is also the school of thought that this positive test could actually help Ochoa's possible move. Exactly what the impact of this positive test on Ochoa is remains a question, but the one thing that is not a question is that for now, Mexico are ata distinct disadvantage.
