It appears as if Eric Avila may be making a loan move to CF Atlas in the Mexican Primera Division. He's in Guadalajara speaking with Atlas about the potential six-month loan so things are moving along. The midfielder came into the league with plenty of hype after playing for the United States U-17 and U-20 youth teams, but has yet to find his stride. David Ferreira's injury didn't spark him either so maybe a move to Mexico will.

Whether or not he can get playing time south of the border remains a question. After all, the Primera Division is better than MLS and Avila struggled for time tin MLS. The style of play in Mexico could suit Avila better though and it appears as if the move could worth the risk, at least according to Drew Epperley of SBNation's FC Dallas blog BigDSoccer. Epperley also looks at how this could benefit Dallas by clearing up space for a new signing or even further down the road, a transfer fee.
This is a very interesting move if it does happen. Dallas is able to free up a roster spot while Avila gets the all important time away from the club that he does need. Playing time does concern me a bit with him going to an international side like this but if they are expressing interest in him it could end up meaning a potential buy-out from Dallas to move there permanently. That kind of thing means Dallas could see a small transfer fee come their way.
Considering that Avila is both talented and not playing, there appears to be little downside for FC Dallas. He might succeed in Mexico and Dallas would get a boost from that and even if it doesn’t pan out, missing a player that doesn’t play much for the rest of the season isn’t going to be too big of a hit for the club to take.
