Paraguay kick us off to start the first period of extra time, but it's Brazil who are on the attack. A searching long put forward by left back Andre Santos finds Alexandre Pato up front, and the AC Milan striker does very well to knock the ball back into space for Fred. At 25 yards out and with nobody able to charge him down, it's the perfect opportunity to shoot, and that he does, but it all goes a little bit wrong for the former Lyon forward and the resulting effort ends up rolling into Justo Villar's arms at about three miles an hour. Despite the range, that was a real chance. Whoops.
Copa America 2011 Quarterfinals, Brazil Vs. Paraguay: Extra Time Gets Started
Paraguay make their reply by pressing into the Brazil half, but the absence of Lucas Barrios means that there's no real focal point to the attack and the result is some sort of aimless meandering around the area before Lucas Leiva steals the ball back for Brazil. Paraguay might be better just defending for their lives and trying for penalties - if they press the attack they run a real risk of exposing themselves to a counterattack. It is, of course, still 0-0 in this Copa America semifinal.
