Who had this game going to penalties? After 120 minutes of football in this Copa America quarterfinal, we're heading towards the horror of a penalty shootout, which will be just what Paraguay wanted and the very opposite of what Brazil (who dominated the match) would have had in mind. After 90 minutes of knocking ont he door and being denied by the wonderful Justo Villar, Brazil might have hoped that the scoring gods would smile more kindly upon them in extra time, but that wasn't to be.
Copa America 2011 Quarterfinals, Brazil Vs. Paraguay: Game Goes To Penalties After Extra Time Ends Scoreless
Extra time, in fact, was dominated by a first-half fight that saw both Lucas Leiva and Antolin Alcarez sent off . The game never really recovered after that, with tired legs plodding aimlessly about as both sides resigned themselves to spot kicks. Tense, eh? Brazil have made a couple of switches, presumably with penalties in mind, Lucas Silva and Elano coming on for Paulo Henrique Ganso and Pato respectively.
Anyway. Who’s got luck on their side now?
