Barcelona Confirm Signing Of Alexis Sanchez

Chile star Alexis Sanchez is bound for the Camp Nou after the now ex-Udinese striker signed a five-year deal with Barcelona. Thus concludes a silly transfer saga that had somehow stretched on for months despite it being clear that Barcelona wanted to buy Sanchez and Sanchez wanted to play for the European Champions.

Of course, it might have taken so long because the move doesn’t really make much sense. Barcelona are buying one of the very best players in the Serie A last season to reinforce their bench, which while probably beneficial to the team is also incredibly expensive - €43 for a guy expected to be on the second string is a little bit of a bizarre move. For Sanchez, you can see the point of moving onwards and upwards from Udinese, but the only way that this deal really helps him is if he’s good enough to break into the Barcelona first team. Not many players are.
