Women’s World Cup Star Abby Wambach To Serve As Player-Coach In WPS
Fresh off scoring one of the biggest goals in Women’s World Cup history and leading the United States to the championship game, Abby Wambach has taken on an entirely new kind of challenge. The United States’ all-time leading scorer will serve as the player-coach of magicJack, her Women’s Professional Soccer team. MagicJack’s owner Dan Borislow explained the decision this way to the Palm Beach Post:
Wambach, 31, has no prior coaching experience, but is among the most decorated American women in history. She has played in three World Cups, won an Olympic gold medal, scored 122 international goals and competed in both both the WUSA and the WPS. More recently, she scored a dramatic game-winner in the 122nd minute against Brazil and scored a go-ahead goal in stoppage time against Japan that looked to be the cup-winner.
