Pavel Pardo Will Help Fill Seats In Chicago - FMF State Of Mind
The Chicago Fire have not been doing particularly well, either on the field or in the stands, during the 2011 campaign. Their 18 points is better than only one team and their average attendance of 14,292 is the fifth worst in the league despite playing in a relatively new soccer-specific stadium. Obviously, this is a team that could use a bit of a PR boost.
Taken from that perspective, the signing of Pavel Pardo makes a fair amount of sense, according to FMF State of Mind:
While the Fire were less in need of a central midfielder than a quality player in any other position, they are very much in need of quality players that will help to get more bodies in seats. Pardo provides that, and in that respect, he should be a very good signing for the Fire, even if they fail to make the playoffs this season.
FMFSoM goes on to point out that the Fire have gone down this path before with mixed results. Cuahtemoc Blanco was a raging success, helping draw record crowds and producing at a decent clip. Nerry Castillo was a success on neither front, and cost the Fire a pretty penny to boot.
