Four Clubs To Participate In Saad Lottery

Only four Major League Soccer clubs will participate in the lottery Tuesday for former University of Michigan standout, Soony Saad. The weighted lottery will be held at 1 p.m. ET.

The Chicago Fire, Chivas USA, Sporting Kansas City and the Portland Timbers will all be in with a shot to land the USA Under-20 international. The Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake were precluded from participating in the Saad lottery after winning lotteries earlier this year.

The Goats have the best chances of landing the 18-year old striker (45.9 percent chance) with Chicago (32.3 percent chance) and Sporting Kansas City (21.2 percent chance) next in line. The Timbers have only a tiny opportunity with a 0.6 percent chance of winning the lottery.

The percentage chances are calculated by taking into account each team’s record over its last 34 regular-season games, dating back to last year. Expansion teams automatically receive the smallest percentages in the process.
