Ligue 1 Preview, Week 3: Is This The Week The World Stops Pointing And Laughing At PSG?

Most expected Ligue 1 to be very tight from top to bottom this season and the first two weeks haven’t dispelled anyone of that notion. Will this be the week the sleeping giants awake?

Saturday

Bordeaux vs. Auxerre

Time: 17:00 CET/1:00 PM EST

An early season match in the vital battle for supremacy of the teams that are still somehow relevant.

Pick: Bordeaux, 1-0

Brest vs. Lyon

Time: 17:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

Lyon managed to take just a point at home from newly-promoted AC Ajaccio. That’s a pretty disappointing result for a team with title aspirations, but to be fair they’re the only ones who think they have a snowball’s chance at winning the title so in all honesty it probably doesn’t really matter at all.

Pick: Lyon, 3-1

Caen vs. Lille

Time: 17:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

Lille were last seasons big surprise, and if early results are any indication Caen are set to take over that mantle.

They aren’t though. Sorry :(

Pick: Lille, 2-0

Dijon vs. Lorient

Time: 17:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

Through two games, Dijon is on pace to finish with a -114 goal differential. I skimmed the index of a statistics textbook once and though it was was missing the page for “sal-sap” I think I got a decent enough handle on it to guarantee that it will end up happening.

Pick: Lorient, 2-0

Nice vs. Toulouse

Time: 17:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

Why it’s not nice to lose at all!!!

Pick: Toulouse, 1-0

AC Ajaccio vs. Évian TG

Time: 19:00 CET/3:00 PM ET

Évian have that run of opening fixtures that poor teams occasionally get that make people think they’re actually pretty good, only for them to “fade” at the end of the season when they have to start playing good teams leading people to blame their lack of top flight experience or fatigue from playing with the big boys or blah blah blah. Narratives are annoying.

Pick: Évian, 2-1

Sunday

Nancy vs. Sochaux

Time: 15:00 CET/11:00 AM ET

Sochaux lost to Caen, which is kind of embarrassing, so they’ll be looking to come out and make a statement to reclaim a bit of pride. Unfortunately they’re playing Nancy, so that’s pretty much impossible for them to accomplish no matter the outcome.

Pick: Sochaux, 1-0

Montpellier vs. Stade Rennes

Time: 15:00 CET/11:00 AM ET

Sure why not.

Pick: Montpellier, 2-1

PSG vs. Valenciennes

Time: 15:00 CET/11:00 AM ET

I have it on good authority that if PSG fail to win this game the club is going to force them to stop using diamonds as spikes as punishment.

Pick: PSG, 2-0

Marseille vs. St. Etienne

Time: 19:00 CET/3:00 PM ET

How exciting! Two of the four remaining sides that have yet to drop points meeting up in the spotlight game of the weekend!

*sniffs rag* *eyes roll back in head*

why this is just going to be marvelou *zzzzzzzzzz*

Pick: Marseille, 2-0
