What followed was nothing short of awesome. Former teammates, media personalities and lots and lots of fans got in on the fun. Many of the jokes focused on Conrad’s age. There were quite a few that addressed his looks. There were a ton of version of “Jimmy Conrad? Oh, I thought you meant Jimmy Connors.” I’m hardly a Jimmy Conrad expert, but I thought it would be fun to compile some of my favorite Tweets, as well as some of his responses.

Jimmy Conrad appeared in just two games with Chivas USA before suffering a concussion that has kept him out most of the year. He will announce his retirement on Thursday. He’s been around so long, in fact, that two teams he played for have since changed their names (the San Jose Clash and Kansas City Wizards). Conrad was named MLS’s Defender of the Year in 2005 and was named to the Best XI four times. He also earned 27 caps with the United States National Team.
In addition to being a standout player, he also earned a reputation for being one of the league’s more articulate players. At one point, he wrote a regular column for ESPN, he was a co-host on MLS Radio and he had a weekly radio show in Kansas City. Many consider him a strong candidate to land a commentating job on TV.
