Is this a ploy to get a new contract, or is Shalrie Joseph dealing with some kind of medical ailment? In any event, this tweet is interesting.
Shalrie Joseph Tweets This Is His Last Year In New England
@kylemartino My heart skip a beat when I just read the news..I know I won't be back next year so am just happy to give it all this year..
Joseph has carried along a club with incompetent ownership and made average players look like All-Stars for almost a decade now. Even as the 33-year-old Joseph has begun to age some of the club has fallen on hard times supporters knew they had at least one class player on the team, but is his time with the club coming to an end?
If Joseph is being 100% honest then he'll be looking for a new home next year after nine years with the New England Revolution, but is he being honest? Maybe not.
It’s no secret that Joseph has felt undervalued in MLS. He wanted to move to Celtic when they put in a bid for him a few years ago only to see the league turn it down. He’s also wanted to be paid like the top player in the league, something that wouldn’t be hard to argue he has been before. This tweet could just be a negotiating ploy as he tries to get the Revs to pay up and extend his contract at the same $500,000 per year he’s getting now or with a raise.
This tweet may be a farewell to New England, but it could just as easily be a negotiating ploy. If it is the end then that’s a shame because he has carried that club for years. If it’s a negotiating ploy, well hopefully Joseph wins out after the way he was treated when foreign clubs came calling.
