The Houston Dynamo are right on the playoff bubble in the Eastern Conference and according to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle they are on the verge of a big move to help them get into the postseason by signing Honduras international Carlos Costly. The big forward is available after spending the spring with Mexico's Atlas and the Dynamo are close to finalizing the deal. He could join the team as early as Thursday and would not be a Designated Player.

Bringing Costly to MLS is a good move if the Dynamo can finalize it. He’s 6-foot-3 and very strong, able to win balls in the air and hold it up. His goal numbers won’t jump off the page, but he finishes the chances he gets and does a lot of other work to make a team better, although he has always been a more prolific player at the international level than he has at the club level. Even so, the Dynamo have gotten themselves a very good striker who is in good form with a few more more years of very good soccer in him at 29 years old.
The question here is how he pairs with Brian Ching. Both are bigger, stronger strikers who do a lot of the same things. They aren't the ideal partnership so it doesn't look like the perfect fit to start. The signing could be a sign that the 33-year-old Ching is on his way out after the season with the young Will Bruin waiting around. Whatever this means for the future though, Houston appear close to bringing in a good player at a premium position at the present so there is a lot to like about this move.
