Nürnberg goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer has been ruled out of action for the next three months after suffering an injury during training before the match on August 13 against Hannover 96. Schäfer persevered through that match, but he was forced to miss this weekend’s match against reigning champions Borussia Dortmund.
Raphael Schäfer Injury: Nürnberg Goalkeeper Out Three Months
FC Nürnberg goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer has been ruled out for three months with an injury.

Schäfer, 32, had two screws inserted to stabilize his right fibula and tibia so the tendon can heal correctly. He will be in a cast for two weeks and then the screws will be removed four weeks later. At that point he can begin his rehabilitation program. He is expected to return to training with the team in around ten weeks.
The goalkeeper told the club’s website that, “You have to be glad that what has happened is not something worse, such as a torn ACL,” says Schaefer. It’s good to see the club captain having perspective on this injury. The team will look to veterans such as defender Javier Pinola for their leadership on the pitch.
