If Tottenham Hotspur thought that Luka Modric's return to the lineup was the answer to what ailed, they were proven hugely wrong as Edin Dzeko inspired Manchester City to a buccaneering performance at White Hart Lane. It was a far cry from the equivalent fixture last season, where only Joe Hart stopped Spurs from battering the Champions League aspirants and City played with three defensive midfielders.
Tottenham Hotspur Vs. Manchester City: Hosts Beaten 5-1 As Luka Modric Fails To Inspire
Faced with a pairing of Niko Krancjar and the aforementioned Modric in the centre of midfield, City went on the attack, with Dzeko leading the line and a wicked combination of rotating players behind him. Before the first half was gone, the visitors were 2-0 up, with new signing Samir Nasri supplying the big Bosnian twice, and things would only get worse in the second half, where a Dzeko tap-in and a classy finish by Sergio Aguero proceeded an absolute belter of a striker from Dzeko in the last minute of injury time to make it a brace of braces for the much-maligned January signing.
Spurs had a brief revival in the second half coincidental with Modric being removed to a chorus of jeering, scoring what always looked like a consolation goal off the head of Younes Kaboul, but lost Rafael van der Vaart to an injury moments later and were forced to accept their impotence with ten men as City confidently stroked the ball around White Hart Lane for the rest of the match.
Early days, but Robert Mancini’s side have been very impressive so far.
