Assuming the folks over at Quake, Rattle and Goal didn't Photoshop this picture, it sure looks like the San Jose Earthquakes are finally getting close to breaking ground on their new stadium. The stadium has now been on the drawing board essentially ever since MLS allowed the team to be resurrected in 2007. But it has hit a series of snags that have ranged from finding a suitable location to funding.
San Jose Earthquakes Appear To Be Moving Forward On New Stadium
With demolition on the property now completed, the installation of this sign suggests plans are moving forward and leaves open the possibility that the team could start playing in its new facility as soon as the 2013 season. Currently plans call for a 15,000-seat facility that could be expanded to as big as 18,000. Earthquakes officials have also said that they could move higher-demand games up the peninsula to Stanford Stadium, where they played the New York Red Bulls earlier this year in front of a crowd of more than 40,000.
