Danny Welbeck may have scored Manchester United's opening goal in their famous 8-2 demolition of Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, but he also was the focal point of one of the few unhappy moments in the defending champions' romp over their former rivals. Thirteen minutes after notching with a header that involved battering through the visitor's defence, Welbeck was chasing after a long, hopeful punt forward only pull up limping with a hamstring problem.
Danny Welbeck Injury Sidelines Striker For A Month
He couldn't continue and Sir Alex Ferguson had to field Javier Hernandez in his place. Now the United manager has revealed the severity of the injury:
It is a loss for us and for England. Danny complained of a tight hamstring before he actually pulled it and we couldn’t get [Javier] Hernandez on quick enough. It is a shame for Danny but it [his absence] will be around four to five weeks.
It's sad news for Welbeck, who was having the season of his so-far-short career. Managing to force both Dimitar Berbatov and Chicarito to the bench is no mean feat, and an England call up was looming. Instead, the 20-year-old faces a month on the sidelines. Hopefully he'll retain his scintillating form upon his return.
