According to reports out of the United States and Spain, Arsene Wenger has approved the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona, provided the club receives an acceptable fee, and negotiations are ongoing.
Arsenal’s Bad Deal In Cesc Fabregas Transfer Partially Media’s Fault - The Short Fuse
Ted Harwood, of the Short Fuse fame, is unhappy at the overall deal, and he’s especially unhappy at what he sees as undue influence from the media forcing Arsenal to take less money for their midfield star. Fabregas ultimately ended up moving for something in the realm of £35M, which, it could be argued, is far less than his actual worth. The media played of the Barcelona interested to such an extent that Arsene Wenger had no choice but to accept a bad deal - or so Ted believes:
A day later, it still looks as though Arsenal would have made a lot more money if they had managed to initiate a bidding war for Fabregas’ services, although the situation does seem a little better for Wenger and Arsenal. They have a buyback clause and a 50% sell-on clause included in the deal for Fabregas, both of which will be helpful. I’m also not sure about the idea that the media caused the issue - even if the battle hadn’t been played out in public both sides would have been well aware of Fabregas’ desire to come home, and would probably have acted accordingly.

Nasri has just one year left on his contract at Arsenal and made it clear that if he were to play out the last year, he would look for another club that has been more successful on a free transfer. The Gunners had no interest in losing Nasri without getting anything in return, while both Manchester United and Manchester City showed interest. It was City who continued to pursue him as the summer went on while United gave up the chase and now the Frenchman has his move, joining the Citizens at Eastland for an estimated £20 million.
Losing Fabregas isn’t much of a surprise. Barcelona has been chasing him for so long and the midfielder has made it clear that he would like to make a move so it was assumed that he would eventually be sold. It was just a matter of when and for how much. Nasri’s sale is more of a surprise for Wenger and Arsenal who were close to a contract extension with the Frenchman in February. Now he is on his way out and Arsenal have some work to do.

Fabregas, a Barcelona youth product, has been linked to a move back to the Catalan club since last season. Wenger has been unwavering in his statements that Fabregas would not be leaving Arsenal unless the club received a Godfather offer. Either Wenger has had a change of heart or - more likely - Barcelona has called up Arsenal citing figures that come close to constituting a Godfather offer.
Many have wondered whether or not Fabregas would even be a regular starter at Barcelona, who have both Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta on the books. Regular starter or not, he’s probably going to cost the Blaugranas a large sum of money.
