Although the paperwork has yet to be finalized, Jurgen Klinsmann has named Martin Vasquez as his top assistant on the United States Men's National Team. Vasquez has been a fixture with Klinsmann ever since he took over the USMNT job and he filled the same role when Klinsmann was at Bayern Munich during the 2008-09 season.

“It was something in my mind already decided once I took the job that he will be my right hand ...,” Klinsmann said during a sitdown with L.A.-area soccer media. “It is definitely Martin Vasquez will play that role.”
Vasquez’s appointment will surely draw the ire of some USMNT fans, who best remember the former Mexican Primera player for his part in Bayern Munich’s struggles and Chivas USA’s collapse last season. Vasquez was fired by Chivas USA after going 8-18-4 and finishing in the Western Conference’s basement.
But Vasquez and Klinsmann’s relationship goes much further back. They have been longtime friends and Klinsmann spoke highly of Vasquez’s work ethic, as well as his ability to go into the Hispanic community to help recruit. One of Klinsmann’s stated initiatives with the USMNT is expanding the player pool deeper into immigrant populations.
During Klinsmann’s early days with the USMNT, Thomas Dooley and Tab Ramos have also served as assistants. Klinsmann has said he plans to bring in other coaches to try them out before making anymore final decisions.
