A late goal by Anthony Stokes earned Celtic a win over Aberdeen in Scottish Premier League action on Sunday, but it won’t go down as a good day for the Bhoys. Star fullback Emilio Izaguirre suffered a broken fibula in the match and will miss at least three months, if not more. X-rays immediately after the match confirmed the break although it is unclear if the Honduran will need surgery.

“It’s a huge blow for us to lose him and we don’t know how long he is going to be out for,” Celtic manager Neil Lennon said. “He is being assessed at the minute and we’ll know whether he requires surgery and, if he does, he will be out for three months anyway.”

Izaguirer was caught by a clean challenge in the first half and fell to the turf. He was stretchered off, clearly in pain and taken immediately to get x-rays. The scan just confirmed the suspected broken fibula that leaves Celtic short on defenders.

After the match, Lennon admitted that they might have to go out and by another fullback. Izaguirre is the fourth Celtic defender to go down with an injury, although the others are not nearly as serious as a broken fibula. Even so, Celtic need reinforcements.

The good news for Izaguirre is that he shouldn't be in danger to miss any World Cup qualifiers for Honduras. Honduras doesn't enter the competition until the semifinal round, which does begin until June so he should have adequate time to heal and return to fitness ahead of the run to Brazil 2014.
