End Of An Era, Filippo Inzaghi Left Off AC Milan Champions League Roster

Few players are more associated with Italian football and AC Milan than Filippo Inzaghi. The striker has been playing professionally in Italy since 1991. The last 10 years of his career have been with Milan, where he's scored 72 times, set a club record for goals in Europe, won two Serie A titles and two UEFA Champions League titles, including in 2007 when he was named Man of the Match in the final. Simply put, Inzaghi has been the face of Milan for a decade, but not anymore. The legend has been left off of the club's 25-man UEFA Champions League group stage roster, signaling the end of an era at Milan.

After debuting in 1991, Inzaghi bounced around for a while before making his breakthrough with Atalanta. He scored 24 goals in his only season there, before making the move to the big time with Juventus. He played with Alessandro del Piero and Zinadine Zidane in Turin, starring for one of the biggest clubs in Europe before making his final move to Milan.

In addition to starring for Italy’s biggest clubs, Inzaghi was also a legend for the Italy national team. He scored 25 times for the Azzurri and was a member of the team that won the 2006 World Cup, as well as the team that went to the Euro 2000 final.

The 38-year-old Inzaghi is clearly in the twilight of his career. He is just three goals short of Raul’s record for goals in European club competition and some were hoping that he would get a chance in the Champions League to break the record. That will not happen now though. Inzaghi’s career is coming to an end and without him, Milan are a very different club than the one we’ve grown accustomed to.
