Pumas UNAM, after getting off to a fantastic start in the Mexican Primera, have now lost three consecutive league matches. If other matches don’t go their way this week, they could end up falling from first place to outside of Liguilla places in a matter of just three matchdays, a stunning turn for the defending champions. Even more stunning than the losing streak is Saturday night’s opponent and the margin of victory. After looking like the better side for the opening 30 minutes, Pumas were downright embarrassed in the final 60 minutes by relegation threatened Queretaro, who secured a 4-0 victory.

Carlos Bueno was the clear man of the match, scoring a hat trick. Minutes after having a near goal cleared off the line by David Cabrera, Bueno finally netted in the 38th minute and scored a second in quick succession, netting again in the 43rd minute.
The second half started out with some handbags, because everyone loves handbags. Israel Martinez - who was having a great game - and Fernando Espinoza - who was not having a great game - were both shown straight red cards. In theory this should have been a win for Pumas, but this was not the case.
They continued to struggle mightily, as Bueno completed his hat trick in the 57th minute and Franco Neill completed the scoring on the 64th minute. Queretaro scored what appeared to be a good goal in the 85th minute, but it was disallowed, presumably because the officials felt bad for Pumas.
What’s going wrong with the defending champs? It’s tough to tell, but Guillermo Vasquez better figure it out.
