Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen have already scored once each in the opening five minutes of their UEFA Champions League match, but the score is still tied at 0-0. Thanks to a couple of very close calls by the officiating crew, both teams have had a goal disallowed. Incredibly, they were disallowed just 30 seconds apart.

Bayer had one wiped off the board first on a set piece. Somehow, an in-swinging ball got through a giant cluster of players onto the back post, where Simon Rolfes was there to meet it. He headed it into the back of the net, but the referee called a foul in the box. For what, it wasn’t exactly clear.
Less than 30 seconds later, Chelsea caught Bayer napping as they were complaining about the disallowed goal. As the Blues got bodies into the box, Raul Meireles appeared to backheel a missed Fernando Torres effort into the back of the net, but his goal was also disallowed, this one for being offside. A replay showed that Meireles was off by mere inches and that the linesperson made the correct decision.
