Herediano was able to grab a late second-half equalizer when Jose Cancela was awarded a very weak penalty in their CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday. On the play, Cancela appeared to trip and then writhed around on the ground, prompting the penalty call.

The goal ruined what was otherwise a pretty dominant half from the Sounders. Fredy Montero scored a 2nd minute goal off an assist from Nate Jaqua, easily slotting a ball past the Herediano goalkeeper. It was the third straight game in which Montero has scored a goal, spanning three different competitions.
Herediano did have most of the possession, but never really threatened Kasey Keller until the penalty call. The Sounders had effectively created several chances, with Jaqua hitting the post on a side-footed volley from about 10 yards out.
The Sounders are trying to get off to a 3-0-0 start in the group stage and ran out a lineup that featured several of their normal starters.
