Maarten Stekelenburg was a great offseason signing for AS Roma, but he hasn't lasted long in net as the No. 1 keeper. After just 18 minutes against Inter Milan, the Dutch international has been forced out of the game with an injury inflicted by Inter defender Lucio. Roma's training staff put a neck brace on him before taking him off the field on a stretcher, and he's been replaced by Bogdan Lobont.
Maarten Stekelenburg Injury: AS Roma Keeper Subbed Off Vs. Inter Milan
The injury occurred when Lucio, surging forward on an uncharacteristic run, was kicked by Lucio on what appeared like it could have been a 50-50 ball. However, Stekelenburg actually beat him to the ball by some distance, and Lucio’s kick was unnecessary. He appeared to hit both the shoulder and head of Stekelenburg, and was shown a yellow card for his troubles.
