Though the teams' recent results and their lineups suggested that Saturday night's encounter would be full of goals, AS Roma and Inter Milan couldn't produce a goal between them. Despite some entertaining play and a number of decent scoring chances, both teams leave the Estadio Olimpico with one point after a 0-0 draw.
Roma Vs. Inter Milan, 2011 Serie A: Full Time, A Solid But Slightly Disappointing 0-0 Draw
Both defenses were awful in Week 1 of the Serie A season, but these problems appeared to have been fixed by both Luis Enrique and Gian Piero Gasperini. Roma and Inter both defended very well on the night, which was a mild surprise.
The biggest event in the match was an unfortunate one, when Inter defender Lucio kicked Roma keeper Maarten Stekelenburg in the head, temporarily knocking Stekelenburg unconscious. Lucio was booked for the incident, but was not shown the red card that his kick might have deserved.
Pablo Osvaldo and Wesley Sneijder had the best chances for their teams on the evening, but neither was able to convert what looked like clear goal scoring opportunities. The best players on the pitch for each team were the veterans who contributed in all facets of play, as Daniele De Rossi and Javier Zanetti were both absolutely brilliant.
