Jaguares Chiapas Vs. Club America, 2011 Mexican Primera Apertura: Full Time, Jaguares Probably Get Carlos Reinoso Fired

Club America has been an all-around below average team in the 2011 Apertura, but the biggest criticism of the Super Aguilas during Carlos Reinoso’s tenure as coach has been the team’s poor defense. He was thought to be on the hot seat going into this match, and after his team’s terrible performance, he looks likely to be fired next week. Jaguares Chiapas defeated them 5-3 on Saturday night, and they never really looked under pressure.

America’s performance in the first half was exceptionally poor. Edgar Andrade scored an easy one for Jaguares just eight minutes in, illustrating exactly how much of a team on the decline America are at the moment. ‘Chucho’ Cristian Benitez pulled a goal back in the 24th minute, but it was all Jaguares for the rest of the half and they scored two more times, going into the half up 3-1.

The second half was more of the same: Lots of goals and America looking like the inferior side. Daniel Montenegro scored twice, but looked more or less like the only player who was extremely interested in saving Reinoso’s job. Andrade added a second while substitute striker Jackson Martinez sealed the deal with a goal of his own, giving Jaguares a 5-3 win.

America are in deep trouble and don’t look at all like a Liguilla side, while Jaguares are firmly inside of the top eight and could be making yet another trip to the Copa Libertadores.
