It's just an international friendly, but that hasn't stopped Mexico and Poland from fighting, acting childish, and partaking in unsporting behavior to get an advantage. Poland are now down to 10 men, which is possibly deserved, but Mexico have somehow escaped punishment despite partaking in the ridiculous situation to an equal degree.
Mexico Vs. Poland, 2011 International Friendly: Ludovic Obraniak Shown Red Card
Following what appeared to be a very mild foul by Poland central midfielder Ludovic Obraniak, Mexico central defender Hector Moreno decided to instigate a bit of a fight by grabbing Obraniak and apparently talking trash in a language that Obraniak probably didn't understand. After a little bit of fighting (which, once again, Moreno started), Obraniak gave Moreno a little kick to the shin pad. Moreno then dove and faked an injury, starting a larger scuffle. After the referee cleared up the fight, he showed a red card to Obraniak.
It’s reasonable that the referee could have seen Obraniak’s kick as violent behavior. However, if that’s the case, he should have felt the same way about the way Moreno instigated the fight in the first place. Moreno should have, at the very least, seen two yellow cards during the course of the incident for starting the fight, then diving and faking an injury.
In any event, Poland now have to finish the match with just ten men.
