Carling Cup 2011, Round 3, Halftime: Manchester United Ahead Of Leeds 3-0, Arsenal Struggling Vs. Shrewsbury

Apparently, Manchester United miss Leeds quite a lot. Sir Alex Ferguson, fresh off a 3-1 win over Chelsea last weekend, has taken a reserve squad to Elland Road and proceeded to stomp all over the Championship side. Of course, when your reserve squad features Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Park Ji-Sung, it's hardly worthy of the title. Anyway, Owen's put a brace past poor Andy Lonergan in the Leeds goal, Ryan Giggs has added another with a lovely run and finish, and Valencia has missed a sitter. It's 3-0 at halftime, and Leeds' buoyant start to the game feels like a long time ago.

Arsenal, meanwhile, aren't having quite so easy a time of things against League Two Shrewsbury at the Emirates Stadium, having hilariously gone behind to James Collins' head, and were lucky not to fall further behind seconds later to the same player. The hosts have equalised through Kieran Gibbs, but they're by no means looking like a lock to escape with a win. It's 1-1 in that match.

There are two all-Premier League battles to be had today - Aston Villa vs. Bolton and Tottenham vs. Stoke. Nothing has happened in either of them, so that's exciting. Nil nils all around. Elsewhere, Wolverhampton are hammering Millwall 3-0 through goals by Dave Edwards, Adam Hammill and George Elokobi at the Molineux, and Newcastle United have pulled ahead of Nottingham Forest, with Peter Lovenkrands scoring the only goal of that match.

There are 45 minutes left for someone to pull a surprise. It certainly won’t be Leeds. Are Arsenal going to survive today?
