Cruz Azul Vs. Chivas Guadalajara, 2011 Apertura: Full Time, Blue Machine Lucks Into Draw
Chivas Guadalajara got off to a fantastic start at Estadio Azul and looked well on their way to snatching three massive road points, but the second half didn’t go their way. Thanks to some silly fouls, some questionable officiating, and a nice goal, Chivas were only able to manage a point as Cruz Azul did enough to get a point in a 1-1 draw.
‘Cubo’ Erick Torres was ruled out, so Chivas returned to the 4-2-3-1 they played at the beginning of the season from the 4-4-2 they play when Torres is fit. In the 35th minute, Chivas reminded everyone why that setup worked so well. With Marco Fabian playing centrally instead of out wide, he played a great through ball to Omar Arellano on the counter attack. Arellano finished with a vicious shot, giving Chivas the lead.

A fan of CD Chivas Guadalajara waits for the team buses to arrive prior to the game against Real Madrid. Chivas plays Cruz Azul on Saturday. Cruz Azul and Chivas Guadalajara have gone through plenty of tough times with unavailable star players during the 2011 Apertura, but both are sitting near the top of the table with a chance to take the top seed in Liguilla. However, they are two teams going in different directions. Cruz Azul appear to be improving, while Chivas have regressed from the start of the season.
Elsewhere, the other two teams in the top four, UANL Tigres and Jaguares Chiapas, face off in a huge match of their own. On Sunday, Club America and Club Tijuana face off as both attempt to salvage their seasons.
