Chivas Guadalajara got off to a fantastic start at Estadio Azul and looked well on their way to snatching three massive road points, but the second half didn’t go their way. Thanks to some silly fouls, some questionable officiating, and a nice goal, Chivas were only able to manage a point as Cruz Azul did enough to get a point in a 1-1 draw.

‘Cubo’ Erick Torres was ruled out, so Chivas returned to the 4-2-3-1 they played at the beginning of the season from the 4-4-2 they play when Torres is fit. In the 35th minute, Chivas reminded everyone why that setup worked so well. With Marco Fabian playing centrally instead of out wide, he played a great through ball to Omar Arellano on the counter attack. Arellano finished with a vicious shot, giving Chivas the lead.
Early in the second half, Miguel Angel Ponce would make things difficult on the Goats. He picked up a yellow card in the 51st minute, then committed another foul just two minutes later. The referee showed a second yellow card in three minutes, sending off Ponce. The yellow might have been harsh, but there’s no excuse for Ponce making a borderline yellow card challenge just two minutes after picking up a booking.
Cruz Azul would create an equalizer in the 63rd minute, through their best creator and finisher. ‘Chaco’ Christian Gimenez set up the goal for Edixon Perea who finished yet another chance for the Blue Machine.
Both sides will feel fairly satisfied with a draw, and await the match between Jaguares Chiapas and UANL Tigres to see where they stand in the table.
