The Seattle Sounders put some action behind their words, putting out a starting lineup that is about as close to first-choice as they can get at this point in the season for their CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against Comunicaciones on Tuesday. The Sounders can clinch a spot in the quarterfinals with a tie and would still be in position to win their group as long as they get at least a point.
Comunicaciones Vs. Seattle Sounders Live, 2011 CONCACAF Champions League: Lineups
Among the starters are Kasey Keller, Fredy Montero and Alvaro Fernandez. The starting center back tandem of Jeff Parke and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado are their clear first-choices there. The other starters have all been regular starters.
Sigi Schmid’s lineup choice comes in stark contrast to Colorado Rapids coach Gary Smith, who didn’t even bother to travel with his team to El Salvador for Wednesday’s match against Isidro Metapan.
Comunicaciones lineup: GK Paredes, Arriola, Martinez, Morales, Mejia, Ramirez, Morales, Thompson, Gomez
Sounders lineup: Keller, Scott, Parke, Hurtado, Wahl, Fernandez, Alonso, Friberg, Neagle, Montero, Fucito. Bench: Ford, Graham, Estrada, Sanyang, Carrasco, Jaqua, Ochoa.
