Osvaldo Alonso hit a volley from about 18 yards out that deflected off a Comunicaciones defender in the 44th minute, sending the Seattle Sounders into halftime tied 1-1 in their CONCACAF Champions League group stage match on Wednesday. The Sounders can clinch a spot in the quarterfinals with a tie.

The Sounders dominated possession, but looked very shaky against the counter-strike. Comunicaciones scored their goal when Transito Montepeque was able to get behind the Sounders defense and chipped Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller for a 7th minute goal. It was the second time in two games that Comunicaciones had grabbed an early lead against the Sounders. Las Cremas were able to get several other good opportunities, even hitting the crossbar once, but were unable to build on their lead.
The Sounders did force Juan Paredes into four saves, with Fredy Montero producing a couple good scoring opportunities. They did look somewhat disjoined in the attacking third, though, as Lamar Neagle and Erik Friberg, in particular, have had a hard time getting into any kind of rhythm.
