The Mexican Primera Division is so well-balanced and has so many quality teams that there are watchable games every single week. It’s extremely rare to find a week where none of the fixtures are enticing. Well...this is one of those rare weeks. Somehow, some way, the scheduling gods have found a way to screw us. These games aren’t terrible, but there’s nothing must-watch in Week 11 of the 2011 Apertura by any stretch of the imagination. Inevitably, some of the top teams will slip up, allowing us to get our entertainment from schadenfreude, as opposed to quality football.

This week’s round of action in the Mexican Primera isn’t the greatest, but all of them count the same as the entertaining ones!
Jaguares Chiapas vs. Atlas
Friday, 8:45 pm ET
TV: Azteca America
Saturday afternoon game? Well, okay. Atlas are a really bad team and should be beaten handily by first place Jaguares. While Jaguares are a good team, they’re certainly not good enough to be on top of the table. A slip-up has to happen soon. Yeah, this is actually one of the more interesting games of the round. I told you it sucked.
UNAM Pumas vs. Club America
Saturday, 5:00 pm ET
TV: Telemundo
Hey, it’s a clasico! Club America really, really suck this tournament, but Pumas played a lot of their good players mid-week in the CONCACAF Champions League and have just recently recovered from a very rough patch of games. America looked better than usual last week, but still needed an 85th minute goal by Cristian Benitez to snag one point.
Though America have quite a bit of talent and form supposedly doesn’t matter in derbies (especially in Mexico), America’s defense is very bad. A new manager and a derby atmosphere is not going to fix this problem. Pumas should be able to score a few times, and their defense should be able to keep America’s talented attack at bay.
Santos Laguna vs. Cruz Azul
Saturday, 8:00 pm ET
TV: Telefutura
Since canning Dario Cocca and canning Benjamin Galindo, Santos have looked like a much improved side. They’re now up into a Liguilla place, and they can solidify that position on Saturday with a good result over high-flying Cruz Azul. The Blue Machine are coming off an away win over Monterrey and a draw against Chivas in which they should have taken all three points. Edixon Perea and Christian Gimenez are in good form, and Santos’ defense will have their hands full.
