After the United States lost to Costa Rica, Jurgen Klinsmann largely got a pass from most of the media. Instead of lambasting the manager for losing on home soil to a severely weakened Ticos side, the media looked to the dominant early possession and improved play of some players like Jose Francisco Torres. That's when Peter Nowak turned to Twitter and asked a very good question. "What would be fans and media reactions after yesterday game, if Bob Bradley was still coaching the USMNT?"
Jurgen Klinsmann Getting A Pass Bob Bradley Would Never Get
Now there are a couple of reasons why it’s not a completely fair comparison. Bradley would be in his fifth year and have had the opportunity to build his program, something that Klinsmann is still doing. He is still experimenting. That said, what if Bradley had taken some chances and experimented? Would he have gotten the pass that Klinsmann is getting? Easy answer. No way. Remember that Bradley was getting blasted for the U.S. bombing out in Copa America 2007 with a youth team even after winning the 2007 Gold Cup and he was in the same place then that Klinsmann’s in now.
Klinsmann is getting a pass because he’s a bigger name and is supposedly more qualified to be a national team manager, even if there is little evidence that he is. He is also European. That goes a very long ways, whether some people would like to believe it or not. He will get a lot more leeway than Bradley ever got.

Yes, Nowak is a former assistant of Bradley’s. He also played for Bradley for five years, something Nowak was more than happy to point out. That means he’s not very objective. It also doesn’t mean he’s wrong in the slightest. The reaction would have been very different if Bradley were coaching the team, but Wahl doesn’t bother talking about that point or even flat out saying that Nowak isn’t objective.
In tweets that would follow he wouldn’t even admit that he was saying Nowak isn’t objective. Grant, if you want to make the point, come out and say Nowak isn’t objective. Don’t hide behind, “providing some context.” Also have the guts to respond to the question that Nowak threw out there. Nowak, you’re not objective and you’re also absolutely right, Bradley wouldn’t have gotten a pass. See how hard that was, Grant?
