Philadelphia Union starting goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon has a broken finger, according to a report by the Brotherly Game, citing a "league source." No official announcement has yet to be made. Mondragon was forced to leave Saturday's game against Real Salt Lake at halftime and was replaced by rookie Zac MacMath.

The loss of Faryd Mondragon could be crippling to the Union, who have benefitted greatly from the veteran’s performance in goal this season.
It's unclear how long Mondragon would be out or even if he will miss any time at all. The Union's next game is on Thursday against the New England Revolution.
Mondragon has been one of the top goalkeepers in MLS this season and has been considered a major reason for the Union’s turnaround. The 40-year-old has post seven shutouts and a 1.06 goals against average, while stopping 61 percent of the shots he’s faced. He has also been given a lion’s share of the credit for a much better organized defense. The improved defense is largely responsible for the Union already having three more points through 25 games than they had in 30 games a year ago.
MacMath would instantaneously become the youngest starting goalkeeper in MLS. He only turned 20 in August. Saturday’s appearance was his first of the season since the Union drafted him with the No. 5 pick in the most recent SuperDraft. He has made seven appearances for the United States U-20 team and was a three-year starter at Maryland.
