Details are still a bit murky, but it is now well known that former FC Dallas player Bobby Rhine died of an apparent heart attack on Monday. He was 35. Rhine was among the most beloved players in FC Dallas history and continued to be closely associated with the team as their manager of community development and the color commentator on the team's TV broadcasts.

Rhine played for FC Dallas from 1999-2008, appearing in 223 games. He endeared himself to fans and coaches alike mainly through his willingness to do whatever was needed. He was officially listed as a forward for much of his career, but played extensively in the midfield and even played some defense.

Since the news broke on Twitter, well-wishes and condolences have been flooding Rhine’s Twitter account (@bobbyrhine). Rhine was particularly active on social media with his final Tweet telling his followers that he was “Going off the grid for some beach time.”
