After dominating much of the first half, Belgium grabbed a 1-0 lead over the United States in their friendly, scoring in the 55th minute. Nicolas Lombaerts one-timed a shot off a Marouane Felliani throw, getting the shot just under a diving Tim Howard.
Belgium Vs. USA, International Friendly: Red Devils Take 1-0 Led
The goal came on Belgium’s first shot of the second half, and incidentally came after the U.S. had started playing much better in the second half. The U.S. had created a couple decent chances early in the second half, but still has not looked capable of unlocking the Belgium defense.
In three games under Klinsmann, the U.S. still looks to be very much a team that is still trying to discover its new identity. While there are obvious signs of change, no players look entirely comfortable. Jose Francisco Torres has come as close as anyone to benefiting from Klinsmann’s stylistic change, but even he has looked less than comfortable in this game.
