Appalachian State men’s soccer coach Shaun Pendleton, 49, was found dead in his Boone, N.C. home on Tuesday, school officials confirmed. No foul play is suspected and the death is currently being classified as “unattended death”, according to the local sheriff.

No foul play suspected in death of 49-year-old Shaun Pendleton, who was in his fourth season at Appalachian State.
“The entire Appalachian family is stunned and saddened by the loss of Coach Pendleton,” ASU director of athletics Charlie Cobb said. “Our thoughts, prayers and concerns are with his wife, Jody, his friends and, especially, Coach Matt Nelson and the 27 special young men of our soccer program.”
Pendleton had just started his fourth season at Appalachian State and had led the Mountaineers to second-place finishes in Southern Conference in 2008 and 2010. He had a career record of 27-26-4. Prior to coming to Appalachian State, he had spent 22 years at Lynn University in Florida where he won two national titles, the Division II title in 2003 and the NAIA title in 1991. His .802 winning percentage is the highest ever in Division II history.
