Aston Villa Sign Robbie Keane From LA Galaxy on Short-Term Loan

Aston Villa will have Robbie Keane for up to eight matches after bringing him in on a short loan from the LA Galaxy

The LA Galaxy confirmed this morning that forward Robbie Keane is going on a short-term loan to Aston Villa. He is already in England, as he has been training with his former club Tottenham Hotspur, but he's moved to Birmingham to join Villa. He will be available for as many as eight games between English Premier League games and FA Cup matches, before he rejoins the Galaxy for their CONCACAF Champions League match against Toronto FC March 7.

Keane will have a very busy offseason, and as long as he doesn't get injured while on loan like his Galaxy teammate Omar Gonzalez, should be in excellent shape to start the CCL and MLS seasons. The short-term loan should also give him a chance to redeem himself in the English Premier League after playing for West Ham United last year when they were relegated. Aston Villa has struggled as well this season, and hopefully the arrangement is mutually beneficial.

Keane's short-term loan follows similar ones for Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan to Everton, and Thierry Henry to Arsenal.
