We're off and running in the Derby Della Madonnina. For the first couple of minutes, it didn't look like much was going to be happening at the San Siro - the ball was more or less stuck in midfield with tetchy little fouls all over the place. Inter, nominally the away side, looked marginally better, and they were the first to threaten after Mark van Bommel conceded a free kick and Thiago Motta glanced the resultant delivery into the back of Christian Abbiati's net. Fortunately for Milan, the linesman's flag was up, and the goal was disallowed for offside.

That will presumably serve as a wakeup call for the Rossoneri. They’ve been extraordinarily sloppy so far and will need to tighten things up in order to have much hope of breaking up Inter’s scintillating form, but there’s plenty of time for the hosts to get better. It’s not time to worry just yet.
