Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs. Chelsea, 2012 Premier League: Blues Snatch Late Win

Chelsea came dangerously close to slumping to their fifth consecutive Premier League match without a win, but they were rescued late by Frank Lampard to take all three points from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The game was a nasty and physical one, with Wolves forcing Chelsea to play their style for much of the match, but ultimately they didn't have the quality to finish off the Blues. Thanks to an 89th minute goal, the Blues walk away from Molineaux with a 2-1 win.

The first half featured a sequence with five yellow cards in nine minutes, all of which were deserved. Chelsea's fouls were perhaps worse, with Lampard and Ashley Cole committing borderline red card offenses. At one point, around the 35th minute, referee Peter Walton had to call over captains Roger Johnson and John Terry in an attempt to get them to calm down their teams.

Ramires provided Chelsea's first goal in the 53rd minute. On a corner kick, he controlled and turned brilliantly, hitting a powerful shot into the roof of the net from the center of the penalty area. Chelsea looked as if they were going to hold onto a 1-0 win for most of the half until Stephen Ward struck in the 85th minute, putting a composed finish into the back of the net from 12 yards out, following a scramble in front of the box.

Chelsea would get the last laugh, and their winner would come from three of their most frequently criticized players. Fernando Torres started the move with a stellar through ball to Ashley Cole, who hit a brilliant cross into the center of the box. Lampard made one of his trademark late runs and found himself in the right place in the right time, getting onto the end of the ball and finishing from close range.
