Diniyar Bilyaletdinov joined Everton two and a half years ago with great expectations, but the club's third most expensive signing now looks set to leave the club at just half the price he was brought in for. The 26-year-old appears on his way to Russia as Everton and Spartak Moscow finalize the details on a £5 million deal that will end a disappointing run for Bilyaletdinov at Goodison Park.
Everton Transfer Rumor: Diniyar Bilyaletdinov On His Way To Spartak Moscow
If a Spartak release is to be believed, “the contract will be signed after the medical examination,” indicating the deal is all but done. It’s not that Bilyaletdinov was a colossal bust for Everton. He played 77 times since joining the club and wasn’t a bad player, but he failed to live up to the expectations heaped upon him when the Toffees bought him for £10 million in August of 2009.
It's not a surprise that David Moyes is cutting ties with Bilyaletdinov. The Toffees strengthened their midfield with Darron Gibson and need cash to add an attacking threat and cover for a defense ravaged by injuries. Bilyaletdinov was the best way to raise the funds to address those concerns, especially after a first half of the season in which the Russian wasn't even a regular first XI choice.
